Quiet Books

With the right fabric and trim these would also make excellent sensory books.

School OTs are always looking for something to do in the summertime, right???  I think these books would be very scaled down if I was the person doing the designing, cutting and sewing.  But, they are wonderful.

Just for Fun--One Benefit of Patience

Oh, it's the weekend.  Time to relax and enjoy family, and brag a little about your kids.

Here's a fun post about my thrifty daughter:

Deep Pressure Input Works for Colts, Too

On a daily basis, my DH works with this three-month-old colt, Freddie.  Sometimes it's just gliding a lead rope over Freddie's withers and rump, sometimes it's picking up one of his hooves and pounding the underside.  All of it is for a purpose, for guiding Freddie to accept the kind of human touch that he'll one day experience more often; the feel of reins on his neck or the filing of his hooves by the farrier.

This afternoon Freddie got to experience the feeling of a steady weight on his middle back, where a blanket and saddle will eventually be set.  Little by little, he's getting used to it.

Prepping for Disneyworld

What does any self-respecting occupational therapist do on a hot summer day in Virginia, when the temps are 100+ degrees fahrenheit???  Well, she herds all her family members outside to the front yard, where all the neighbors can watch and gawk, while mom and dad and grandma and aunts and all the kids create their own Mickey Mouse tie-dye t-shirts.

If you knew this OT you'd understand--her family is nuts over Disneyworld and they probably travel to Florida at least once a year to wait their turn for rides in the long lines in the oppressing heat.  Their teenage sons even ask to go on the trip; that's total indoctrination to me.  Have to admit, though, that the colors in the shirts are gorgeous even if they have that famous shape in the middle.

Start Training Your Puppies Now for Next 4th of July

One of my daughter's friends has very photogenic dogs, and...they also perform tricks!

Just for fun, here are the camera-hogging hounds posing earlier this week for their 4th of July portrait.

Thx to Helene Norris for letting me post her great photo!

Wrist Cuff Chewy

Has anyone used this chewy wrist cuff with students?  It looks very "typical" and would probably also make a good fidget toy since it probably doesn't bang noisily when knocked against things.
